Following on from the article last week concerning Reinventing the Signature Control , a reader from Australia was kind enough to ask if the “extension based” Signature had all the features of the original one. I was about to say “Yes of course” because in most respects it has more than the original:
- Lots more styling options thanks to the excellent work done by the creator. You can change the background, the ink and the guideline as well.
- Can be added to an RTF template and printed in the resulting PDF as the signature.
- Can be saved in your external system as an image or as SVG data
- Can be uploaded as a File in your standard Upload control
It was actually the 4th item in this list that was the last to be added when Reinventing the Signature Control, using an Upload extension.
As a result it now covers all existing functionality and provides more in the shape of many more formatting options and the saving of the signature in SVG or PNG format in a connected application – in a Field rather than as an extension, which makes it easier to handle metadata as well. You can see the result in the short video below as well, look out for the last Screen which is the new upload. Of course you don’t have to do it with a button – that was just to give you something to look at.
In the coming months we hope to be working on other stimulating projects – we have quite a few in the backlog including a chart wizard to help you display data in visual format in any project. It will be very much in the same vein as the Code Generator which has always been very popular indeed.
Reinventing the Signature Control was definitely one of our favorites, so we hope for more!
